Abstract:

The transport sector is one of the main contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, which accelerate climate change. The dependence on fossil fuels in urban mobility generates not only environmental impacts but also public health problems due to air pollution. In the current context of climate emergency, there is an urgent need to transition toward more efficient mobility models.

Electromobility has emerged as one of the most promising technological strategies for decarbonizing the transport sector. However, its widespread adoption depends not only on technological development but also on cultural change and increased societal awareness regarding transportation choices.

In the state of Tlaxcala, in the Huamantla region of Mexico, the need to implement an awareness-raising activity on the impacts of mobility was identified at CECyTE EMSaD 22, Benito Juárez, an educational institution located in a region experiencing urban growth.

The objective of this study is to raise awareness among students about the relationship between mobility and climate change through a science theater presentation.

The methodology consisted of three phases. In the first phase, a presentation script was developed addressing the importance of mobility and its impacts on climate change, as well as technological strategies such as public transportation prioritization and electromobility. A five-question questionnaire was also designed to assess students’ perceptions. In the second phase, the science theater presentation was implemented with high school students. In the third phase, a question-and-answer session was conducted and the questionnaire was administered again to evaluate the impact of the activity.

The results indicate that the awareness-raising activity had a positive effect on students’ knowledge, as reflected in the differences between the questionnaires administered before and after the intervention. These findings highlight the importance of awareness-raising initiatives for students in basic education in Mexico.
