Abstract:
Mexico City is a large urban city with a population of just over 9 million people, a figure that can be very shocking and considering that the city is part of the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico, where that number increases to around 23 million people, in a land area of around 7,000 square kilometers, thinking about mobility can be very complicated.

Mobility is understood as the movement of people and goods in a given area, therefore, urban mobility is those movements in an environment belonging to the city. Thinking about the problems that are experienced in a city where the increase of the vehicle fleet is constant is overwhelming, however, for students of Urban Mobility Engineering these problems translate into areas of opportunity and problems to be solved.

The objective of this paper is to show the presentation sessions of the main urban problems in Mexico City that were carried out at the UPIEM of the IPN for the students of Urban Mobility Engineering.

The methodology consisted of meeting with groups from different semesters to make presentations in which mobility-related problems were presented, such as: the increase in the number of vehicles, the construction of the city for the use of automobiles over public transportation services, deficient formal transportation systems, air pollution due to gas emissions, traffic accidents, the war for space on the streets, and the lack of accessibility in transportation and infrastructure.

The results show that students are sufficiently aware of the problems that need to be solved regarding the challenges of urban mobility in Mexico City, it was also found that various issues are being addressed from perspectives such as: electromobility, non-motorized mobility, the concept of Complete Street, the organization of the Superblock model, 5-minute cities and smart cities.
