Abstract:
The use of new learning technologies in developing human resources is crucial in this ever changing environment. The onset of globalization has made technology and constant access to information and people very vital for both the public and private sectors as well as the education industry. This survey research focused on the use of ICT- Internet facilities in developing human resources and skills; developing their personal skills, knowledge, attitudes and abilities in their transformation to becoming digitally adept in work place. The population comprised final year students of Imo, Abia and Ebonyi States’ higher education institutions totaling 15,000. A Cluster sampling technique was used to draw a ramdom sample of 1,500 students. Majorinstrument for the study was researchers- structured questionnaire dubbed, ‘Use of Internet Resources for Human Resources Development’ (UIRHRD). Three research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. Data were analyzed using simple percentages and chi-square. The study reviewed that internet facilities are not adequately provided in the institutions; most of the students are not fully ICT literate. It was recommended among others that higher institutions should make adequate provisions for internet facilities and intensive computer studies should form integral part all courses of higher education students in Nigeria.
