Abstract:
First time computer-programming learners struggle to learn programming language and have little ability to write complete program. Prior programming knowledge and fragile memory impede novices programming learning process. The integration of lecture capture (LC) in programming modules seem to be an intrinsically motivating approach to enhance programming learning. Unlimited access to lecture capture at any time would help learners to revise and rehearsal the programming content. Theoretically, lecture capture supports the theory of memory rehearsal that helps novice learners to process information repetitively to gain retention. The attainment of programming understanding using lecture capture including practical activities may increase motivation to write computer program. The focus of the study is to examine foundation engineering and science novice learners’ perception of LC technology in increasing the ability to write computer program. Learners’ motivation in learning programming slightly has changed after using LC. Confidence to write program and ability to solve challenging questions has increased, indicates that there is some impact in learning when LC technology is used. The outcome of this study offers insight into the potential use of LC as part of learning tool.
