Abstract:
Scientific production in Peru is limited, in the nursing area the situation is critical. On the other hand, university institutions constantly seek to integrate research into the professional training process, where students can be provided with capacities and tools that allow them to know and carry out research with an academic focus, being able to identify and solve problems related to their area performance. The thesis is a first opportunity to carry out research independently, with the guidance of an adviser teacher. Carrying it out requires organization, discipline, and effort.

Previous studies show that the students have presented difficulties in carrying out the thesis, encountering the student's own institutional and socioeconomic factors, which have repercussions on the completion of the research work within the terms established according to the university regulations.

In our country the new university law 30220, emphasizes the research dimension. It indicates that to obtain the professional title, the approval of a thesis is required, this being an original and unpublished work, which must be supported in a public act before the academic community of the university, and must be approved by an evaluating jury. This is not fulfilled in practice, because the academic programs, for the most part, do not organize or equip research subjects with suitable teachers and the logistics to meet the goals. It is seen in practice that of all the students who complete their studies, few obtain the professional title immediately.

In this study, we refer to a nursing program implemented within the framework of a formative research development plan, which includes the participation of qualified research professors and the creation of a Research Unit at the Faculty level. that monitors the fulfillment of goals of the research subjects. In this context, the objective of this study was to determine the willingness to carry out a thesis, in students of a nursing program in Lima, who start their activities in the subjects of the research curricular axis. The focus of this research was quantitative, descriptive, and transversal. 62 nursing students participated. The data collection instrument was the readiness scale for the completion of a thesis (disposición para la realización de una tesis (DRT) in Spanish), made up of 44 items, which evaluated the importance given to the thesis and the general ease of doing it. Regarding the findings, in the willingness to carry out a thesis, the high level prevailed with 71% (n = 44), followed by the medium with 16.1% (n = 10) and low in 12.9% (n = 8). These results are encouraging, considering that it is part of an ongoing improvement program. The results that constitute scientific evidence that will allow to continue adjusting improve the disposition of the students to the development and commitment to their thesis work should be analyzed.
