Abstract:
The university as an academic institution that trains professionals with capacities to analyze and solve problems of society, must promote research activity within its programs. Students with the guidance of their teachers, should experience in their professional training or postgraduate training, positive experiences that bring them closer to research, making them see that this activity is an opportunity for development to have a better performance and contribution in their professional life.

In our country, after the institutional licensing processes of the universities, where the basic conditions of quality were evaluated, important efforts are being seen to improve research activity and the visibility of scientific production, but apparently, it is not yet enough, there are still many pending tasks such as implementing a well-designed and sustainable formative research system with clear goals, having teachers with the appropriate profile and the conditions that allow them to dynamize the research.

The attitude towards research is a value impression that is made on the confidence and liking or dislike that one has towards the development of research.

Previous studies show that university students at all educational levels see their research-related subjects with negative attitudes and feelings. Academic programs care little about changing this situation. In the present study, we are facing an experience of starting research subjects in a second specialty program in nursing, in which nurses from different universities in the country participate, therefore their research experience prior to starting the mentioned subjects is unknown.

In this framework, the objective of this study is to determine the attitudes towards research in students of a second specialty nursing program at a university in Lima. The focus of this research was quantitative, descriptive-transversal design. There were 72 second-specialty students. The data collection instrument was the Scale of Attitudes towards Research, made up of 32 items. Regarding the findings, the unfavorable level prevailed with 70.8% (n = 51), followed by favorable in 26.4% (n = 19) and unfavorable with 2.8% (n = 2). The results are an indication that the second specialty program in nursing that has just started must make efforts through academic coordination and teaching work, so that the student shows positive attitudes towards research activity, in addition to assessing the contribution that they can achieve through it in their respective nursing specialties.
