Abstract:
The latest developments in learning theories and brain research influenced and changed many disciplines including Foreign Language Acquisition (FLA) field. Traditional Grammar-translation and Audio-lingual methods are not compatible with the recent constructivist and cognitivist learning theories that promote an activity-oriented, project-based communicative approach to FLA. Dörnie is one of the pioneer theoreticians who put forth the notion of self-regulation of academic learning. Self-regulation approach is based on cognitive, metacognitive, motivational, behavioral, and environmental processes that learners can apply to enhance academic achievement. In this theoretical framework, art-based language learning model urges as a solution to FLA because it offers a wide range of learning and teaching opportunities. During our classroom teaching experiences, we persistently explored art-based effective methods in the foreign language classrooms. This presentation focuses on how art can be implemented into traditional FLA curriculum, and help to evolve the lesson into an authentic, critical thinking skill development experience. Keywords:
