Abstract:
Our paper is concerned in identify the specific and general competencies for the university graduates in the opinion of the potential employers in Romania. In this respect we have submitted a questionnaire to several accounting firms asking the financial managers to answer several questions in this regard. We were interested in assessing the desired specific competencies in the opinion of the employers and also in assessing the general competencies needed for such an area. The results of our empirical survey documented a higher interest in general competencies like: communication skills, the capacity of working as a team member or forbearance. When it comes to specific competencies required the respondents pointed out that a starting base of tax and accounting information must be found in the competencies of the economic graduates. All the required competencies are explained in our paper and their importance assessed. The main scope for conducting such a study consists in the improvement of the economic education curricula of our university and also can serve as a starting point worldwide. Keywords:
Economic graduates, specific competencies, general cmpetencies, tax, accounting.
