Abstract:
This study aims to develop a reading skills teaching module using android technology applications through interactive whiteboards that can help preschool children to recognize and sound letters and vowels more effectively. The development of this module is based on the ASSURE teaching model. The objective of this study is to implement a very thorough module development procedure; selection and use of methods, media and source materials, strategies of encouraging children’s involvement in reading and evaluation of the effectiveness of teaching modules. The study method was conducted through document analysis, observation and quasi-experiment were run for 2 months which is using Mann-Whitney U test to analyse pre and post quasi-experimental test data involving 30 respondents (6 years old children) of control and treatment groups. The selection and use of methods, media and source materials, namely the use of android applications and interactive whiteboards, show that it is in line with the curriculum, has the appropriate language and attracts attention. The evaluation of the effectiveness of this module showed that there was no significant difference between the pre test of the control and treatment groups. The findings of this evaluation also indicate that there is a significant difference between the mean post test scores of the control and treatment groups. This shows that this module is effective in helping children read. The implications of this study for children and teachers are to improve the mastery of reading skills and help teachers use technology in teaching more easily, improve the quality of teaching and help prepare and manage teaching materials more systematically.Keywords:
