Abstract:
In the past, Nautical Sciences students who wanted to sail were not drawn by the field of research since they did not consider it one of the most attractive options, nonetheless, nowadays thanks to the evolution of technology, working onboard and doing research are compatible.

In general, every bachelor degree presents a very extensive studying programme in a limited period of time, the tasks that have to be learnt in the different subjects are left to the lecturers’ creativity in order to get closer to the research that is developed during the bachelor degree.

A very optimal time to learn the basic concepts behind a research work is with the final degree work. The degree final project that is based on very simple basic research, is a motivation to a type of curious student who wants to experiment and make these credits that they have to fulfill, do not become a mere formality to obtain the degree. The key to success is to awaken in the student the desire to do something original and unique, for this you have to listen to what professional interests the student has and seek an alignment with the resources available within the university or with companies within the sector. In this context, the student acquires a commitment to work while deepening a subject of their interest. In addition, the student begins to learn about the professional dynamics and topics that are aligned with business interests. The University of the Basque Country establishes educational cooperation mechanisms to formalize these student-company-professor relationships.

This paper explains the experiences of two different educational cooperation modalities, the work methodologies and planning done before and during the work and the adaptation to the future expectations of a student in a degree program where research is not among the first professional options.
As a result, a useful guide or basic structure is established for future students, who have so many questions in their heads when they make the decision to opt for a final degree project in a modality that they are completely unfamiliar with. In order to establish this guide, the student's knowledge of a research project from the first year of the degree to the last year is taken into account.
