Abstract:
Although, all the first years of the career are a transition year in the middle of high school to university, there are degrees in which the vocation or the project of life should be considered before start. This is an analysis of the profiles of the students of the first year of the career in a Bachelor degree of Maritime Transportation.

Sometimes the students start a career thinking that they have chosen a professional profile but the subjects of the first year of the career do not match with their ideas. This happens mainly with mathematics and physics. This is the reason that the teachers have to do an extra effort of tutoring/coaching at the same time they have to equilibrate the effort with the vocation of the students.

In this work is presented some indicators which are used to determine the profile and the skills of the students to reach a basic level of knowledge avoiding the stress they suffer to pass the evaluation. In particular we are going to focus on the subject of mathematics.
