Abstract:
Bullying in South African schools is a pervasive issue that significantly impacts the academic and emotional well-being of students. This study explores the extent and nature of bullying within the Warmbaths Circuit, Waterberg District, Limpopo Province. Drawing on a comprehensive review of literature, the research highlights the various forms of bullying, including physical, verbal, social, and cyberbullying, and their detrimental effects on learners. The South African Department of Basic Education introduced the National Safe Schools Framework (NSSF) to mitigate school violence, and the study also examines its implementation and impact. The research objectives include determining the prevalence and types of bullying, identifying factors influencing bullying behaviour, and proposing guidelines for educators and policymakers to effectively address and prevent bullying in educational settings. By employing a qualitative case study approach, data was collected through semi-structured interviews with educators and administrators, providing insights into the experiences and perceptions of stakeholders regarding bullying incidents. Ethical considerations were prioritised to ensure participant confidentiality and respect. The findings contribute to understanding the complexities of bullying in South African schools and provide actionable recommendations for fostering safer and more supportive learning environments. Findings underscore the critical roles of effective anti-bullying policies, continuous educator training, supportive school environments, and community involvement in mitigating these impacts. Recommendations highlight the need for proactive intervention strategies and further research to address emerging forms of bullying and enhance protective measures across educational contexts. Keywords:
