Abstract:
Motivation has been an issue in remote learning settings since the begining, but with the remote emergency learning situation brought about by COVID19, this issue has become even more pertinent.

If traditionally e-learning courses are prepared with months in advance, develop several different tyes of strategies and aim to engage students with different technological and pedagogical methdologies, the COVID19 context forced the entre academic comunity to adjust to a remote reality in a few days, resulting in a different paradigm.

This study aims to map out the literature on the issues of motivation in the pre and post COVID19 era using a systematic review of the literature protocol and the VOSViewer software to generate visual representations of the thematic clusters.

Results indicate different thematic structures in the pre and post pandemic world, which frame new issues, challenges and opportunities brought about by the increased awareness and demand for online learning offers and content.

This study discusses the main differences between the pre and post COVID19 paradigm, and offers insight into consequences of the shift in the Higher Education context, contributing for both theory and practice.
