Abstract:
The Open and Massive Online Courses (MOOC) are open online courses designed to cover a wide range of audiences, attended by any individual, in order to promote the expansion of their knowledge. The essence of the MOOC is based on collaboration and cooperation: users have at their disposal synchronous and asynchronous tools in which they can share, promote debates and even design content to promote distance learning.
E-learning becomes an effective, intelligent and fast way in the learning content sharing, supported by platforms and web tools dedicated to this learning model, with features and resources dedicated to the creation of activities, as well as promoting excellent interaction and collaboration between participants, namely trainees, trainers and institutions.
Considering that innumerable web contents are daily developed and added to the network without any criteria in form, either of their creation or even their presentation, and also knowing that the human capacities are extensive although different from person to person, there is mandatory to the content producers that their development must be done trough the awareness of these differences.
Taking this into account, and following the best known practices, a MOOC in this subject was held at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD): "Inclusive Web - How to develop inclusive web contents?".
The general objectives of this MOOC was to encourage reflection and transfer theoretical-practical knowledge related to the good practices for the design and evaluation of web content interfaces, within the scope of accessibility and usability, in order to be accessible to all.
The MOOC counted on 174 subscribers, among them, 2 with special needs, from 4 different nationalities, mostly people who develop and/or add web content, such as: students, professionals and enthusiasts in the areas of Informatics, Multimedia, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Digital Media, Web Design, Teaching and Special Education.
The programme was composed of six weeks, each with its content:
Week 0 - Access, Environment and Presentation of the MOOC;
Week 1 - Inclusion and Human Capabilities;
Week 2 - Assistive Technologies;
Week 3 - Web Accessibility;
Week 4 - Develop Accessible Web Content;
Week 5 -: Automatic Tools for the Websites Evaluation.
It should be noted that in May 2016, the text of a directive on the accessibility of the websites and mobile applications of public sector, ranging from administrative, judicial and law enforcement services to hospitals, universities and public sector libraries, was agreed between negotiators of the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission.
In Portugal, on October 19, 2018, Decree-Law No. 83/2018 was published, which defines accessibility requirements for websites and mobile applications of public sector in Portugal, after the President of the Republic has promulgated in the October 10, 2018 the diploma, and will enter into force on January 1, 2019.
According to the problematic and with the demand to change the referred theme, a second edition of this MOOC is being prepared, taking into account the good acceptance and requests of potential participants.Keywords:
