Abstract:
The traditional teaching method at law faculties was essentially theoretical. The lecturer sought to introduce, with greater or lesser success, the student to the contents of the law and its application by the courts. However, the theoretical courses taught to law students nowadays need to go hand-in-hand with practical education. The lecturer is required to introduce the student to the real world of practising the law.
University studies have fulfilled their social role if the students graduate with the necessary skills to find employment. However, experience shows that faculties of law have a long way to go in this area. The training offered to law students is not perfect, but these problems need to be solved by improving the contents of law degrees.
In particular, law studies must be more practical and this can be achieved by two complementary routes. The first is to use practical cases as the base for the correct learning of the theory. The second is for internships to be organised in companies, the courts, law firms, city councils, etc. Both the practical cases and work experience in companies must be suitably programmed to be effective. This paper therefore highlights the need to improve and increase the practical training provided by faculties of law by means of considering practical cases and internships outside the University.
