Abstract:
The world of work is experiencing a new industrial revolution, called the fourth, strongly connected to the incorporation of new information technologies. Klaus Schwab, founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum, coined the term fourth industrial revolution to refer to the exponential development of the digital revolution based on the fusion of technologies that could blur the lines and borders between the physical, the digital and the biological, such as Artificial Intelligence (hereafter AI). AI is a broad term, that usually has been defined as a diverse set of computational procedures that can mimic human decisions and/or processes so closely that they appear intelligent, being able, in example, to process with enormous quickly large volumes of data, to identify, to relate and to predict patterns.
Organisations are increasingly incorporating AI in various areas such as Human Resources Management as it is a powerful tool, for example to perform tasks such as curriculum screening in the preliminary stages of the job application process. Recent research showed that AI can be of help in reducing economic and temporal costs in recruitment and hiring processes, as well as in favouring a positive employer brand. However, this use of AI for recruitment and selection purposes is not without controversy. For example, it has been note that AI could impact negatively on the management of Diversity, Equity and Equality. However, despite the controversy around IA as well as its incremental use by oganisations due to its many potential advantages, there is not yet a full understanding of its use and application in HR management, nor in the training of university students in recruitment and selection processes including AI tools.
In this context, this paper discusses the application of AI in HR recruitment and selection process, and its potential advantages and disadvantages, as well as addressing the future trends and challenges for the training of students of labour relations and human resources. Keywords:
