Abstract:
1. Introduction
Technological growth is one of the most outstanding characteristics of the twenty-first century. It evolves day by day and we need to take advantage of it if we want to offer language students a complete global updated education.
Obviously, adapting technology to language classes is not as easy as it sounds because it requires the use of a systematic process. All along this talk the author proposes some steps to follow when trying to implement technologies in the teaching of English as a foreign language.

2. Possible reasons to apply new technologies in the language classroom
There are many reasons for teachers to apply new technologies in the language classroom. We could divide them in two broad categories:
Reasons applied to all aspects of education: technological advances, life in a more demanding world, and globalization.
Reasons applied to the specific area of language teaching: to being updated in the advances developed on each area, to getting practice in the use of the foreign language, and to reinforcing the knowledge students can get in the classroom. These reasons can lead us to propose some steps to follow when trying to apply new technologies in the classroom.

3. Proposal of a procedure to adapting new technologies in the language classroom
Te following steps could be suggested when adapting new technologies in the language classroom:
Developing a needs analysis
Developing a new technologies inventory
Applying the new technologies inventory to the needs of the students
Developing a pedagogical chart per technology
Piloting the application of the technology

4. Needs analysis
The written questionnaire is the most widely used way to plan the needs analysis for a certain population. The first thing we have to do when planning it is to decide on the kind of information we are interested in. Since we are trying to apply new technologies on language teaching, it would be a good idea to first find out the necessities students can have and once we know about them to apply the available new technologies that best cover the students´ necessities.

5. New technologies inventory
As examples of the available new technologies we can apply to cover the necessities foreign language students can have, we can cite tools as the following: video lecture, chat, blog, wiki and messenger.

6. The structure of a pedagogical chart
It is advisable to design a pedagogical chart to be filled with information about all the technologies we plan to work in the language classroom. The components of that chart could be the following:
Name of the new technology
Characteristics of the new technology
Technical aspects required by both the teacher and the student
Pedagogical aspects that can be practiced with the new technology
Number of times that the new technology can be used in a week and in a month
Time teacher and students need to invest in the application of the new technology
Training needed to apply the new technology
Relationship to other new technologies

7. A pedagogical chart per new technology
It is advisable to fill a pedagogical chart before applying each and every new technology in the classroom, as well as having this information handy for future use.

8. Piloting
Finally, we have to consider that after piloting the application of new technologies we will be able to improve their pedagogical chart.
