Abstract:
The paper presents part of the ongoing results of the INNOVABLEND project, in which some teachers from Salamanca University's Faculty of Education are working together with the objective of analysing the Blended Learning process in Spanish universities.
The advent of new technologies and the presence of the internet in our daily lives have brought us many changes, which have a huge impact on society and greatly affect the educational arena. In that sense, the higher education system requires changes which correspond to the changes proposed by Bologna’s plan.
Regarding these changes, higher educational programmes need to readapt their methodologies with the aim to focusing on the new students’ role. In that sense, Blended Learning environments promote more flexible structures and respond to the demands of 21st century students, allowing them to combine face to face and online interaction mediated by technology.
Blended Learning framework is considered the scaffolding of one of these methodologies including, Just In Time Teaching, Flipped Classroom, Gaming and Project Based Learning which have just emerged. That is why our proposal is focused on analysing and clarifying the conceptual advantages and disadvantages of each of the methodologies proposed above. Our results show that the potential of these methodologies is enhanced by using them together to complement each other rather than in isolated.
