Abstract:
Nowadays, the use of ICT has been raising in many fields including Civil Engineering. As a consequence, students need to be trained in the use of these techniques to ease their incorporation to labor market. This study is carried out within the framework of the predictive models of optimization of concrete structures subject of the master’s degree in concrete engineering. This course introduces students to methods like the optimization of structures through the application of algorithms, and other concepts like multi-criteria decision making. To reach the knowledge about these techniques students are trained in programming and data science methods. This research is focused on the assessment of students' perceptions regarding 3 main items. First one, is the training in ITC use during their Civil Engineering studies. The second one, is related with the use of ITC by university teachers. The last one, evaluates the knowledge received regarding data treatment and programming techniques. To get results about this topics students have completed a survey that have been analyzed by means of a principal component analysis. This study has been focused on ITC due to its relation in acquiring different transversal competencies, such as critical thinking, analysis and problem solving or the use of specific instrumental, all of them framed within the institutional project of the Universitat Politècnica de València. This paper will introduce future research studies related to the use of more specific ITC fields such as Machine Learning and Big Data techniques.
