Abstract:
This paper tries to assess the social and civic competence through Arts Education in the Elementary Education Degree. The experiment was carried out in a group of 3rd year within the Educational Proposals in Arts Education assignment, of the Faculty of Education at the University of Valencia. It seeks to explore and achieve various materials and instruments as well as acquire specific codes and techniques of the different artistic languages to use them with expressive and communicative purposes.

By knowing some of the possibilities of the audiovisual media and the information and communication technology in which the image is involved, we discover meanings of expressive and aesthetic interest, used as resources for observation, searching for information and the development of own productions, either independently or in combination with other media and materials. Artistic productions are performed cooperatively, assuming different roles and collaborating on solving the problems that arise, to get a satisfactory end product.

We manage to treat social and civic competence significantly, making an interpretation of human activities using perceptive art criteria. Situations are analyzed from an artistic and cultural point of view, looking for a better expression of the cultures of societies using art as transmitter of cultural values.
