Abstract:
Gamification has emerged as a proven strategy for enhancing learning by boosting engagement and motivation. When integrated into Virtual Worlds (VW) solutions, it introduces an innovative dimension, enabling interactive engagement with digital avatars. The Metaverse holds the promise of overcoming physical distance barriers while adding a new layer of immersion to virtual environments. This paper aims to outline the development of a range of gamified learning activities, including Digital Escape Rooms of fluid statics and dynamics and other simulations and audiovisual resources related to hydraulics subjects, especially irrigation systems, within a Metaverse-based educational environment using the Spatial.io platform. This can be used in the future in different subjects and degrees of the ETSIAAB at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid due to the variety of subjects taught by the authors. It has already been demonstrated with other new educational techniques that students experience enhanced engagement, improved learning outcomes, and more creativity and innovation. Furthermore, it serves as a tool for acquiring knowledge in an engaging and enjoyable manner.
