Abstract:
The paper relates the training activity carried out within the framework agreement between the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the Polytechnic of Bari and the Municipality of Gravina in Puglia through a multidisciplinary graduate laboratory composed of students in architecture, led by six teachers from different disciplines and three professional architect tutors including a representative of the municipal administration.

The theme of the Degree Laboratory in "Enhancement of Cultural Heritage", that is now at his sixt year in the Master's Degree Course in Architecture of the Polytechnic of Bari, was focused on the management for the recovery plan for an ancient district of the city of Gravina.

the working model that has been developed has tried to systematize the need for knowledge of its territory by the municipal administration with the need to carry out the didactic training exercise on a model case of the real professional life of the architect.

the occasion was favorable to training because in addition to the usual issues relating to the analysis of the built and the methods of approaching architectural restoration, it allowed to face the more complex issues relating to the management of the transformation and enhancement processes of the territory and cultural heritage, in their administrative and planning aspects.

The contribution of experienced professionals in the specific area of the intervention and of teachers who are experts in restoration and enhancement, urban composition and transformation processes, urban planning, consolidation, morphology and typology, survey and representation made it possible to examine the theme from different perspectives, giving an overall assessment of sustainability to the work as a whole.

Sharing the study work with the administration is the key to a relapse in terms of general planning for the recovery of one of the most degraded areas of the historic center of Gravina di Puglia.

In fact, the work main core, the ancient district of Piaggio in Gravina in Puglia, constitutes a heavily degraded urban portion encapsulated in the ancient center of the city in immediate adherence with the most valuable monuments, and itself (once recovered) could constitute a monumental complex of high value as the founding nucleus of the entire village.

So in that way the students of the Polytechnic of Bari have drawn up a solid knowledge base for the recovery plan with the relative indications of both technical and managerial nature, given the presence of public and private goods within the district.
