Abstract:
This paper aims to be a concise guide to aid teachers organize their time so as to maximize efficiency and quality in the teaching and learning processes. The teacher’s workload is often at an unsustainable level which is caused by inadequate planning and design of the course activities and their evaluation. This present study is intended to give straightforward tips on how to affront successfully the teaching and assessment of courses in the European Higher Education Area.

The main ideas are centred on:
(i) Planning.
A sensible and realistic planning which will achieve the desired objectives and learning outcomes.

(ii) Design of activities and tests
On line tests for student self assessment
Group tasks
Use of Virtual Campus
Setting up of Blogs

(iii) Evaluation Techniques
Efficient use of Spreadsheets
Evaluation Indicators
Competence Evaluation
Portfolios

This work is included in the project entitled ‘Methodologies and tools for improving the efficiency, transparency and quality of the continuous assessment in the European Higher Education Area” directed by Dr. Sanjiv Prashar and which forms part of the sixth edition of the Innovation in Education Program of the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.
