Abstract:
Our working group carries out research into new models of competence based teaching and evaluation within the Educational Innovation Project “Competence Learning and Evaluation methods in University Education” directed by Dr. Sanjiv Prashar. This project forms part of the fifth edition of the Innovation in Education Program of the University Rey Juan Carlos.

Our aim is to encourage the students to take a more active part in the learning process. In order to obtain this goal we have decided to introduce a system of competence evaluation in the Civil Law course in the degree of Law at the University Rey Juan Carlos.

We have concentrated on two key generic competences: “teamwork” and “oral and written communication”. Part of the coursework has been developed by the students working in groups and subsequently presenting their results in a written report and an oral communication. During the course the teacher has carried out a continuous evaluation in the development of the competences by the students using different indicators in the assessment. The application of these indicators in the evaluation has allowed us to monitor the progress of the students in acquiring the competences in question.
