Abstract:
The use of computer games in the process of teaching various subjects at schools and other educational institutions has become an integral part of the educational process. In recent decades video and computer games have become very popular among young people all over the world. Computer industry offers a great variety of video games and there is always something to choose from. On the one hand, one may argue that spending long hours playing computer games is a waste of time that, moreover, can lead to gaming addiction. On the other hand, one cannot fail to note the positive aspect of playing computer games. Since most video games are written in English, the purpose of this study is to find out whether games motivate students to learn and improve their English. This paper summarizes the results of a survey conducted among the students of Kazan Federal University and a group of teenagers. Our study is based on the hypothesis that computer games have a positive impact on learning English by encouraging them to expand their vocabulary, improving grammar knowledge and listening comprehension skills.
