Abstract:

The participation of women in Computing has historically been marked by invisibility, despite their significant contributions to technological development. Currently, there is a decline in female interest and participation both in education and in the labor market, a phenomenon associated with social, cultural, and educational factors, especially in regional contexts such as the Amazon. In this context, this project aimed to promote the engagement and motivation of female students to learn about the trajectories of women in Computing, including both global and local references, and to encourage their interest in the field through educational, audiovisual, and interactive actions. This study is characterized as applied research with a qualitative approach, developed through a face-to-face educational intervention. Initially, an activity schedule was designed, and public schools in the metropolitan region of Belém were contacted to organize the implementation of the activities. Simultaneously, scholarship and volunteer students from the Systems Analysis and Development program were trained in debate mediation, inclusive communication, and data recording procedures. The main activity consisted of the screening of the documentary Connecting Future Professionals, which presents narratives of women working in Computing. As a complementary activity, a social media profile was created to continuously disseminate content related to gender and technology. After the screenings, mediated discussion sessions were conducted to promote critical reflection and exchange of experiences among participants. The results indicate an expansion of the project's reach through the permanent and free availability of the documentary on digital platforms, enabling its use as a pedagogical resource. The social media profile “Future Women Developers” published weekly content highlighting women in the history of Computing, as well as excerpts from the documentary, reaching approximately 400 followers by the end of the project. Additionally, in-person dissemination activities were carried out within the institution, along with screenings at academic events and vocational fairs. The main outputs include pedagogical materials, audiovisual records, and a technical report. The project contributed to enhancing the visibility of women in Computing and increasing students’ interest in the field. In the long term, initiatives of this nature may support policies aimed at promoting gender inclusion in Science and Technology, particularly in regional contexts, fostering greater equity and diversity in professional education.
