Abstract:
As part of the courses of Architectural Perservation Studio and Heritage Preservation Fundamentals in Master of Architecture at the Milan Politecnico and in permanent education courses of Architecture and Structure MetaDesign (ASMED) and Metadesign Architecture Working-studio Activities (MAWA), a line of research has been developed, aimed at defining contributions and multidisciplinary approaches to the knowledge of reality. From a rereading of some theoretical references identified as significant related to the topic of the reality knowledge (concerning the disciplines of philosophy, psychology and architecture), the paper identifies a methodological approach oriented to the definition of the knowledge of historical buildings.

The work is characterized by a series of laboratory teaching experiences that:
- propose "classic" experiments developed in various disciplines;
- actualize the state of research and criticism related to the experiments previously described;
- deeply concern the results related to the project of historical buildings’ knowledge starting from case studies (existing architectural projects made for historical buildings and educational experiences).

The paper presents the research results from the construction of thematic chapters that trace disciplinary experiences.
- anthropological aspects of knowledge: the role of the experience
- the narrative of knowledge experience: the myth of Plato's cave
- phenomenal and phenomenological aspects of reality. Knowledge through visual perception: contributions from psychology. Testing and educational search.
- perceptive languages: see, watch and observe. Educational experiments.
- from perception to interpretation: contributions from philosophy.
- the interpretative act between pre-comprehension and description.
- narrate the built and building the narration.
