Abstract:
As hardware rendering technology continues to advance, game creation tools such as Unreal Engine 5 have become increasingly versatile tools for the creation of personal expressive digital art. Artists and students of the arts wishing to create linear animations, interactive experiences, or augmented or virtual reality art can leverage game developer tools to create their own artistic pieces. Leveraging real time development tools allows for more adaptive feedback, quicker iteration, and responsive design workflows. With these widely available tools, artists and learners are empowered to create dynamic and even interactive works of self-expressive art. However, the technology may seem daunting to an inexperienced user who is unfamiliar with game production. This paper hopes to show the potential of these tools and serve as a primer for artists, creators, and students who wish to venture into this area of digital art. The paper also will introduce the possibilities of artistic self expression using the same real-time development tools that are commonly used in video game production.
