Abstract:
The article analyses approaches to training of military professionals in the field of military leadership in the conditions of the University of Defense in Brno. The first part of the analysis defines the basic principles of the development of military leaders, identifies their key competencies and requirements for their preparation for military service. Its second part compares content and syllabus structure of leadership among similar military institutions with military degree programs provided by the University of Defense. Subsequently, by combining the identified requirements and competences and different foreign approaches to leadership training, the article derives recommendations for improvements in the field of military leadership.

The current security environment in which a military professional moves is accompanied by dynamic changes. The basic characteristics of this environment include the difficult predictability of threats and risks, instability, asymmetry of conflicts, the lack of a continuous battlefield, low predictability of further development. The importance of the linear concept decreases and the importance of holistic conception, understanding and action increases. Systems, processes, methods and models of selection, education and training of professional soldiers and commanders must constantly reflect on these changes and analyze them, analyze them, evaluate them and adapt them to their character.
