AN ANALYSIS OF THE USE AND USEFULNESS OF SELF-EVALUATION GUIDES AS AN AUTONOMOUS LEARNING TOOL

All over Europe, the European university framework is undergoing changes aimed at fostering student and staff mobility. Universities, which so far had focused on a system based on traditional lectures, must adapt to new forms of teaching by encouraging students’ active and autonomous work.Tutorials, teamwork or practical sessions must be included as an integral part of the learner’s curriculum. In this context, our paper presents the results of a research within a project belonging to the Higher Education Teaching Research Networks at the University of Alicante. More specifically, our project has analyzed the use by the students and usefulness for them of two self-evaluation guides, one for the subject entitled “Business Economics (Organizational Design and Production Management)” and another for “Strategic Management”. These subjects belong to the degree in Business Administration and Management and to the joint programme in Law and Business Administration. Both guides were published by the Valencian Language Promotion Service at the University of Alicante. The results obtained, after a 9-question survey was handed out, confirm that these self-evaluation guides have been widely used and have proved extremely useful for students’ autonomous learning.
