Abstract:
The present student’s generations are very familiar with new technologies. In the educational environment, internet has become a common tool to look for documents and multimedia resources that could help the students to illustrate concepts to be developed. Moreover during the last years, internet users have gone from being a “consumer” to be a “content generator”; a clear example is Wikipedia where internet users are responsible for adding, modifying and correcting the information in the online encyclopedia.
In 2011, as part of the activities created to celebrate the International Year of Chemistry in the Faculty of Science at Cadiz University, a web application was combined with student’s creativity and originality to create an innovative educational tool "UCA Periodic Table". This online resource, encourage the student participation on the learning process as well as allow coordinating activities between different subjects (Chemistry, Physics etc.) and Educational Levels (University, Primary and Secondary Schools).

The “UCA Periodic Table” tool was first used by Cadiz University Inorganic Chemistry students and Secondary School students at Cadiz Province. After being registered through on-line forms, the students participated in knowledge development by creating their own web space which includes several resources (games, experiments, videos etc.). At the end of the academic year, a scientific committee, consist on Chemistry Degree teachers at Cadiz University, evaluated the different project and awarded the best projects on both categories (University and Secondary School Students). The award ceremony took place on the 15th November 2011 at the Science Faculty as one of the Science Week activities dedicated to commemorate the International Year of Chemistry
