Abstract:
Innovative pedagogies are new ways of experiencing teaching and learning. The growing interest for conceptualization, guidelines and best practice examples has laid the groundwork for new developments. In line with this trend, the present position paper aims at describing the development and application of the Mmogo Method® and photovoice as embodied learning innovative pedagogies in higher education. Firstly, the article sets theoretical and methodological grounds to apply visual methods such as Mmogo® and photovoice in academic learning and teaching. Connections with other innovative pedagogies namely service learning are suggested and explored. Secondly, the authors present and analyze three learning design scenarios building on concrete experiences involving undergraduate students in a technical university. Finally, the reflections of the students on the use of visual pedagogies and their perceived impact are explored. The article, therefore, contributes to expanding knowledge about visual methods as pedagogical approaches supporting the process of innovation.
