Abstract:
This research was conducted for design and development of a new fire protection suit for an industrial customer with critical requirements of using such suit in regularly occurring emergency situations. The market based products were unable to satisfy their stringent safety requirements and hence could not be used during its operations. Users requirements were sought and extensive testing of fabric material were conducted which showed it to be a critical component of new product development for the specific customer. An elaborated collaboration was undertaken during the research among various academic, customer, public and private sector organizations during this research. However a product to the satisfaction of customers was finally developed and tested in real fire environment. A University Industry collaboration framework evolved through this investigation which is being reported in this research paper. The framework was standardized and consolidated in a form which could be used for collaboration in national or international level projects involving large number of organizations. A step by step approach of how this framework was evolved and was implemented is given in detail in this paper
