Abstract:
The educational process underwent considerable changes in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Classes, lectures, conferences and other scientific events have changed their format as such activities became available only online, which gave rise to new obstacles. At the same time, it provided students with new opportunities. The authors of the article focus on public speaking on the example of journalism students and on the hardships and challenges learners have faced during online speeches which were made in front of the audience in large conference rooms beforehand. A public speech is part and parcel of both the educational process and a mass media specialist. Therefore, many students inevitably need the skills of oratory and public speaking. The study reveals such challenges as psychological and technological issues, keynote preparation and audience interaction as well. However, the research also illustrates the benefits of such an experience: an opportunity to feel more relaxed in familiar surroundings, speak without tension and stress, don't be interrupted by noises and sounds around, etc.
