Abstract:
The world has changed dramatically since the outbreak of the pandemic. Notably, the education process was modified in order to meet necessary standards and at the same time to provide students with decent education. Therefore, it is common knowledge that enrollment to the university and the following first year of study is a brand-new life period and a severe challenge for young adults, especially if it is realized online. From a psychological standpoint, in the year 2020 newcomers underwent hardships to find friends while learning online as it was almost impossible to immerse in student life in such conditions. Moreover, learners were not prepared for the change of the educational environment (online classes replaced classroom learning). Hence, taking responsibility for doing homework, listening to lectures, and complete all tasks duly to the full extent has proved difficult. In this research, a qualitative method of study was used to identify most of the pros and cons of going online in the critical period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, in this article, students' remarkable comments are provided, giving a vivid description of their first online year and its impact on their social life, educational level, and relationship with lecturers and professors.
