Abstract:
Covid-19 has changed attitude towards education and learning languages in particular. Many students and other people, striving to learn foreign languages, try to find convenient innovative approaches to studying that will be relevant to their needs and meet the requirements of life in quarantine. As a result, they are willing to seek methods that will be less time-consuming, more entertaining and efficient, as well. Our research is aimed at analyzing TV shows and movies as one of the best means of learning languages that attract different audiences and actually help to develop communicating skills, open up new vistas for the future opportunities and broaden the horizons. Moreover, it helps to understand the culture, the atmosphere and linguistic realities of the native speakers and their country. The dialogues of film characters are rich in active vocabulary, not only academic one, studied at the classes, but also in phrasal verbs, slang, household words and other collocations that can be very useful on a day-to-day basis. Furthermore, frequent watching of movies and series provide learners with the opportunity of improving pronunciation, grammar and the use of grammatical structures in a proper way. However, there are several drawbacks of such method of learning foreign languages. For instance, sometimes the language level is very poor and students can be confused and learn new structures incorrectly. In addition, such a lightweight method of learning can be less efficient and may be suitable for only certain groups of people.
