Abstract:
The current presentation introduces a unique book series "Arabic is our Language" for reading and writing acquisition for Arab elementary school, which was built by the Arabic department staff in CET (The Center for Educational Technology). The book series was built based on the Arabic language curriculum (Ministry of education, 2009), Adams's interactive model for reading acquisition (1991) and the latest researches on reading and writing acquisition in general and in Arabic in particular. In addition, the special linguistic features of Arabic were taken into account. The series is very friendly for use, the topics and pictures are close for the pupils' world and domains of interest. The assimilation process of the series in schools is accompanied with teacher guide, guidance and lectures given by professional staff who also accompanies the teachers in the field during the year.

Besides to this tight guidance, CET also offers educational websites who are design for practicing reading and writing skills. One of these websites is " OFEK" for Arabic language education" (in English: Horizon) who help Arab pupils in elementary school practicing reading and writing skills by offering interactive learning units for pupils and assessment units for teachers in order to evaluate their pupils' achievements. The websites contents were built in accordance to the books guidelines in interactive environment.

The current presentation will expose "OFEK" environment, the building principals of such website, the role of educational technology in learning and teaching process, a comparison between interactive environment, and the printed books (advantages and disadvantages). In addition, I will present a study of the achievements of Arab fifth graders after working in two assessment units and two learning units in "OFEK", the study conclusions and didactic aspects will be discussed.
