Abstract:
This paper review studies on Industry Advisory Council (IAC) that have been implemented in various countries in boosting employability rates of graduates and to help higher learning institutions to produce job-ready workers. The main focus of this paper is the implementation of IAC in Malaysian higher learning institutions. The review analyse published studies of IAC in various academic databases, focusing on the current development of IAC and the research gap. The factors of IAC are also reviewed and classified based on the Governance-Administration-Organizational-Mutuality-Norms (G-A-O-M-N) framework. It is found that previous studies have been carried out in the contexts of both institutions and industry. From the lens of GAOMN, the most investigated factor is administration perspective. However, there is a lack of empirical studies that covered IAC from multiple perspectives. Discussion and future research are provided based on the findings. The scope of the review can be defined by subject, period covered, and publication outlets searched as boundaries. For this search, the online databases used include Emerald, ProQuest, JSTOR, IEEE, Wiley and Springer Link. The keyword used is ‘industry advisory council/board/committee AND Malaysia’. Retrieving process is also extended to ‘University-Industry Collaboration/Partnership’ keywords as IAC is one of the main medium of collaboration between the two parties. Each paper was analysed and categorized into governance, administration, organization, mutuality and norms perspectives.
