Abstract:
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the transmission of infectious diseases is categorized into three categories namely endemic, epidemic, and pandemic. The Pandemic category is the most serious stage which is the spread of pandemic across borders and involves the world, as well as the spread, occurs in a very fast state. Recently, the country and the world are dealing with Coronavirus disease or known as the COVID-19 pandemic which directly affects education, social, economic, and political instability. This study aims to identify the impact of infectious disease crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic on education institutions including the readiness of students in online learning methods such as using Massive Open Online Learning (MOOC), Open Educational Resources (OER) and Flipped Classroom. Past studies found that there are other constraints such as limited access to the internet line in rural areas and also the willingness of lecturers and students to use online teaching and learning. Besides, students are also affected by psychological aspects including stress, depression and anxiety as well as low resilience. The psychological effects become more severe when a person does not have strong resilience to deal with this pandemic over a long period. At the same time, facing extreme anxiety that affects the functioning of daily life, for example, lack of communication, lack of appetite, lack or cannot get enough sleep and feel infected with the disease. The implication of the university's challenge in this situation is to provide basic assistance such as food and safe accommodation to students on campus during the Movement Control Order period, in addition to providing and enhancing psychosocial assistance to students such as counselling, psychotherapy and other supportive assistance. Research proposals on universities should provide teaching and learning using online methods; balancing the psychosocial effects on students during a crisis; have an accurate method of presenting information; always have a sense of belonging.
