Abstract:
Over the past few decades the higher education institutions in the United States have undergone significant changes. Factors such as immigration, global economy, growth of online institutions and recession, have reshaped the role of the traditional college student and higher education institutions. The rapid growth of internet and educational technology tools, have allowed many virtual online institutions to emerge and encouraged many traditional institutions to offer online courses. Another significant factor that is currently shaping the higher education system in the United States is the frail economy and the global recession. This paper will analyze how these trends are affecting and reshaping the higher education system in the United States.
