Abstract:
The article is devoted to the problem of linguocultural perception difficulties by non-native speaking students in the process of teaching English as a foreign language. The field of research is linguodidactics using linguacultural and cognitive approaches. The relevance of the topic lies in the fact that in the educational process the teacher has to work with multicultural groups of students who perceive foreign linguacultural to varying degrees of cultural information adoption. The research hypothesis is that the more differences between the native culture and the linguoculture of the target language, the higher the possibility of perception errors. Cognitive errors lead to difficulty learning English as a foreign language.
The hypothesis is verified using an empirical study conducted in a multicultural student environment of RUDN University during English teaching as a foreign language. In preparing and conducting an empirical study, the authors of the article used the following methods: content analysis of scientific literature on the problem of teaching English as a foreign language; questionnaire method, comparative analysis method, method of pedagogical observation and data analysis.
The purpose of the study is the hypothesis approbation. The objectives of the article are to identify difficulties in the perception of lingocultural information by non-native English students. As a result of the study, the author comes to the following conclusions: the linguocultural information perception depends on the communicative situation context, which has or does not have an analogue with students' native culture. The lower the degree of correspondence with the native cultural stereotypes, the more difficult is the perception of new linguocultural information introduced in the learning process for the first time. The article proposes the author's method of overcoming the linguocultural information difficulties. The effectiveness of the method is proved empirically in multicultural groups of students. Keywords:
