Abstract:
At European level we are witnessing an increase in the need for information about employers’ perspective on the skills of graduates. This paper aims to investigate the behavior of Romanian employers in recruiting staff for jobs dedicated to higher education graduates in economics. This information is indispensable for an efficient functioning of the labor market. We used data collected in 2014 through a questionnaire applied to a sample of 369 companies from Romania. The companies included in the study meet the following condition: they have recruited graduates from the economic field in the last 3 years or they are planning to recruit over the next three years.
The competencies for which we investigated the employers preferences are as follows: mathematical, writing skills/ reading in Romanian, foreign languages, ICT skills, communication skills, problem solving, the ability to adapt and act in new situations , decision-making, teamwork, planning skills, initiative, intercultural skills.
