Abstract:
The agony of workplace discrimination on women in education leadership are a serious concern in the education sector of South Africa, specifically in the Limpopo Province. The purpose of this study was to investigate the agony of workplace discrimination on women in education leadership during recruitment, selection and promotion to higher positions. The study followed a convergent parallel method research approach which incorporates quantitative and qualitative designs. From the population of 100 female participants, all 100 completed the questionnaire, and 10 were sampled to participate in the focus group interview in the study. Data was collected through the use of a tape recorder. The study is embodied by Feminists Theory framework that view the agony of workplace discrimination on women in education leadership as being the result of an imbalance of power between males and females. Data was analyzed statistically for the questionnaires and thematically for the interviews. The study found that in Limpopo Department of Education, women are given opportunities to provide leadership during their acting capacity but when coming to real appointments they are disadvantaged. The study recommended extensive monitoring of the agony of workplace discrimination on women in education leadership as well as implementation of legislations during recruitment, selection and appointment processes.
