Abstract:
The paper deals with a convenient method for explaining geometric probability for high school students. Explaining mathematical chapters by numbers, definitions, or axioms is not interesting to students. It is much better to show students an example to help them better understand the mathematical phenomenon. Target shooting is an attractive youth sport and can be used as an example to explain geometric probability. Considering the classical problem that there is a certain area W in the plane and there is another closed area V, we look for the probability that the point P from the area W is simultaneously in the area V. If we consider the target for shooting as an area V, we look for the probability of the target shooting. Examples from ballistics can be used very well to explain the calculation of statistical characteristics of the experimental results and the importance of statistical quantities. Old and modern methods of evaluation of shooting accuracy are shown in the article. In the conclusion are described advantages of this way of teaching.
