OPEN SOURCE INTERNET CONTENT AS A SUPPLEMENT TO A BASIC CURRICULUM IN MATHEMATICS FOR STUDENTS OF ECONOMICS

Decreasing total hours of courses in mathematics offered to students of economics in Poland combined with lower levels of proficiency in mathematics represented by graduates of secondary schools result in more interest of students in teaching aids available on the Internet as a supplement to lectures and classes. Certainly, free of charge Internet resources rank first as most popular. Therefore, a risk is born of using unverified workings and untested computer programs. Damages resulting from such indiscriminate use of the Internet may exceed any gains obtained from reduced hours of classes. As a consequence, it is important to specify such open source materials which are able to supplement the knowledge transferred in lectures and classes in a way that is reliable, accurate and correct as regards didactics. The paper seeks to shortly and peculiarly review the Internet resources from the angle of potential use in a basic curriculum of mathematics covering elements of linear algebra and calculus. The courses will be specified which can supplement the theoretical contents submitted in lectures, as well as calculators to support individual solving of problems by students.
