Abstract:
Many students fail to succeed in their studies due to several factors that include; adjustment to tertiary environment, struggling with social issues like managing relationships with self, family, friends and boy or girl friends. This also includes lack of planning and failure to manage time effectively. To address these challenges, students are assisted during the first weeks of the semester to develop their semester life plan. The plan focuses on three areas; firstly, setting achievable goals followed by principles for managing their relationships. Secondly, setting the target marks to be achieved in each test or assignment that they would write that semester. Thirdly, allocating time for daily activities during that semester informed by the goals and principles that they have set for themselves. For the four years that this approach has been implemented, it has proved to be effective in improving students’ performance.
