Abstract:
Traditional approaches in managing student attendance have been invaded by the 21st century technology demands. Never before has there been high demand for accuracy and timely services than it is now. On contrast, traditional approaches call for manual techniques for capturing attendance records, analyzing them and generating their reports. ICT has positioned itself as a solution to human endeavor in providing high level services. This study proposes an automated system to ease the process of managing student attendance. This solution is particularly helpful to institutions which have computer network like a simple LAN. Efforts have been made to ensure that this solution is easy to replicate so that it does not call for sophisticated computer skills. In this way a bigger community of institutions can benefit than otherwise. Open source tools employed includes: PHP, HTML editor, MYSQL and java script; PHP and MYSQL are used for setting up the back end of the system and HTML and java script are for the front end user interface.
