Modern information-oriented society is characterized by rapid development of information technologies (IT) and increasing amount of incoming information. As a result schoolchild’s basic information culture formation has become the challenging issue for the system of education. At the following stage of society computerization the idea of information culture is variable. Requirements for information culture of schoolchild are changing, it is important to distinguish basic information culture of schoolchild.

On the basis of the culturological approach, authors of the article have developed the concept of basic information culture of schoolchild and its components. Basic information culture of schoolchild is based on the principles of free choice of student’s directions and types of activities, satisfaction of their interests and abilities, creative self-realization of personality, personality-oriented and activity-based approaches. Moreover, it was designed the modular program of lifelong learning "Computer science and IT". Each student was given the opportunity to build an individual educational trajectory of learning Computer science and IT. In the process of learning the modular program, students performed individual (pair or group) educational and project works. They have used IT for implementation and presentation of their projects. In the authors' of the article opinion, the group project activity was the most effective, as it allows developing skills of the XXI century - critical thinking and cooperation.

Students have presented their projects at contests, olympiads, exhibitions and conferences in various forms (presentation, computer program, video, website) that was important for developing public presentation skills of students. It also has given a powerful impetus to the formation of students' responsibility, their motivation for further studying Computer science and IT.

The conducted experimental research has shown that the level of formation of basic information culture of schoolchildren in the experimental groups is higher than in the control groups. The results confirm the effectiveness of the developed modular program of lifelong learning, aimed to form the basic information culture of schoolchildren.
