Abstract:
Over the last few years there has been a growing interest in employing active learning in higher education as a consequence of its advantages, compared to those obtained by using traditional teaching-learning methodologies. Benefits of combining active learning methods can be quantified in terms of both improved student’s collaboration and skills development. In this study two active learning activities based on both Problem Based Learning (PBL) and the Jigsaw method are blended to help analyse how to improve the teaching of some content of the Manufacturing Engineering syllabus. This subject is part of the fourth year of the study plan of an undergraduate Engineering degree in Industrial Technologies, and students that studied this subject already had some experience in this kind of learning techniques. In order to get a feedback on the teaching methodology, surveys were carried out with the aim of analysing the students’ satisfaction with these learning activities as well as the knowledge attained. In this present study, it has been obtained that it is possible to teach complex content to students efficiently by using these active learning techniques.
