Abstract:
During a long period three separate specializations in the field of Transport, Infrastructure and Logistics existed at Delft University of Technology, in the Netherlands. These specializations where part of three different Master Programs. Within several research programs the researchers and lecturers that in these three different programs already worked together, but this was not the case yet during education. The Board of Director found it an interesting thought to develop a separate Master Program in the field of Transport, Infrastructure and Logistics, www.til.tudelft.nl for the Delft University of Technology.
What courses to pick from the existing programs, what new courses to develop and how to design a curriculum was not known yet. Analyzing the components of the existing programs and specializations and developing the line of learning of this new program and developing several alternatives was the task that had to be completed. Next to that keeping three faculties happy and not too much competing with the existing programs was also important.
The process of analysis and decisions made during the process are elaborated on. Furthermore the most important requirements where stated as well the major design decisions. Finally the organizational structure necessary to execute the program is elaborate on.
The program has been followed by over 100 students successfully. The program offers students the opportunity to follow besides a limited set of obligatory courses a wide set of specializations to prepare Master Thesis project in a wide set of disciplines. Furthermore the curriculum offers a wide set of course from several faculties of the Delft University of Technology.
After the program has been running for over 5 years now and it is assessed by a quality board. Several small changes are suggested and have to be incorporated. Because several students want to follow courses abroad adaptations to be able to do so have to be made.
